HCI Researchers, Educators, Students, and Friends,

On July 25, the hcibib.org server was upgraded, but the search software was
lost for a while, then found, then found to be unreliable, and decommissioned.
On December 1, a new search service was launched for the HCI Bibliography.
It has a more conventional query syntax and more features, such as paged
results, sorting, tabular formats, and more post-search limits. The Help
shows some search examples. I have a list of features to add (e.g., an
export to EndNote), but will take suggestions (particularly about what to
do about the graphic design).

I looked over some mail from Wolfgang Stuerzlinger from 2002,
and I think he planned to send refer format files.
I do not think I have such files.

I think we were in the process of moving to Montreal around that time,
so I did not push the issue. Regardles, I would like to add GI to the HCI BIB.

I can not find GI proceedings in the acm dl, but I seldom find anything there.
Do you know the home page for the conf? For example, here is the one for CHI:
 	http://portal.acm.org/toc.cfm?id=SERIES260

I do not care much if the non HCI papers are culled or not. I cover the IR
conference, and most IR papers are not on HCI. Anyway, I like to catalog
whole conferences because once it's done, it's done.
My main interest is in getting the main fields, in a form I can massage
into the hcibib version of refer. On the bib search results, choose Raw as
the Format and you can see the format. For the CHI+GI 87 conference:
 	http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=hcibib&query=c.chi.87
Here are the raw record:
 	http://www.hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=hcibib&query=c.chi.87.*&format=raw

I think it would be best to start with one conference and get the bugs
out of the process.

I don't know my Erdos number, but my JIR paper was reprinted in the
Best of the Journal of Irreproducible Results.

Thanks, "Chris",

I've had fun with it since the release, mainly because I put much more
work into stats, so I'm tracking types of searches, feature usage, and
zero-hit searches. I am not sure what to do about the searches for
Brittany Spears.

The stats showed me, however, that a lot of search counts were just
robots like Google scouring a page of links like top authors; a fix to
the file header and the average daily searches has dropped, but I am
heartened by the surprisingly high number of unique ip addresses.

Montreal is in its first deep freeze. At least I have yet to slip on the ice,
something I've done spectacularly the previous two years. Now I await spring.

At OSU, Prof. Phil Smith might be a good expert, although the area of
expertise that is closest is information retrieval.
 	http://iwse.eng.ohio-state.edu/philsmith/
Phil could probably refer you to others in central Ohio.

Another name that comes to mind is Dr. Mike Nelson, who is in the Dayton
area. Mike is a consulatant who worked at Mead/Lexis-Nexis for years.
 	http://www.nelsonusability.com/
He also works for HFI, a well-known HF consulting company.
 	http://www.humanfactors.com/about/mike.asp
If you hired Mike through HCI, which I am pretty sure does expert
testimony, you could have a local expert with a network of potential
sources that would be bound to secrecy. Maybe the best of all worlds.

Both these people are, to my knowledge, highly competent and credible.

Good luck.

pagination-last 5

Next is rare, but pagination-jump beats out other types of pagination.
No backwards pagination (although users can back up).

I'm like to put a lint to it from the HCI Bib humor page, okay?
