Caroline,

I put George down a little earlier for his morning nap, and that meant
he was asleep by the usual time, so we are still on schedule. That also
meant Megan stayed on her schedule and everyone stays happy (myself
included).

I have made a decision that it is not going to be possible for me to
keep George next Fall. With three kids, and my being a full time
student with homewore, what we will be able to do each day will be
severely limited. And as I mentioned, we are planning as of now to
have Shane come home to watch them while I am in class. He can't watch
George, and we don't want to hire someone else, or take them to
daycare, if we don't have to.

That being said, July 15th is the absolute end of George's daycare
here. But I also would like to "encourage you" (that sounds dumb, I
know) to actively seek other alternatives before that time. My
reasoning is primarily medical. Last night, I had some problems that
made me think, "Maybe I should go see the doctor tomorrow." (Problems
are gone, fortunately) I can't do that with him here. Lani is out of
town, and increasingly less available, anyway. In this case, Shane has
lots of sick time to take care of Megan at the drop of a hat. But I
can't expect you to pick up George every time I have to do something,
which i think is going to be more and more frequent. In the last two
months of the pregnancy, for example, my appointments will be twice
weekly. But this may be only the tip of the iceberg. Bedrest is not
unheard of, and should that be my case, Megan has alternatives with
relatives and so forth, but in a matter of 24 hours, you may find I am
no longer available for George. I don't want this to happen to you or
him.

While we didn't plan for this last summer, and I certainly don't want
you to be in a position of hurriedly having to find some unacceptable
alternative should something happen to me, I think you may also find
yourself more relaxed with a dependable person or center that doesn't
have other huge responsibilities. I don't want myself, either, to end
up neglecting Megan or this baby because of obligations to George (i.e.
not being able to go to the doctor, etc.)

I am also increasingly less certain of my sisters' stand on this. She
is very unsure of her plans, so I am going to assume she is not a
responsible alternative. And of course, there is a possibility we will
relocate. I am not as concerned about that, though, because it will
take time.

I realize this is probably a frustrating situation and that you would
prefer everything went along as it has so far. As Lani told me, we
should all be happy that we had the arrangement at all, and for as long
as we did. I will be as flexible as possible in this change, and will
try to help you as much as I can. (In the future, too, should you need
emergency help, or occasional weekend or overnite help, if was haven't
moved, don't hesitate to ask. At least you still have that luxury. )

See you tonight. Kathy

Hi Lani,
I'll pass on your message re: taxes to my husband
Gary. We spoke with Kathy about taxes when we first
started the arrangement.
  Regards,
Caroline

Hi Caroline, yes, I got to see the pictures and take plenty for myself.
I liked the black and white blurry one of the two the best and all the
other ones where they are playing. George freezes up when he sees the
camera and he always looks so serious but I thought they were wonderful
pictures.
I am helping the kids with their taxes and the lady that does my
taxes needs some more information. Are you claiming the taxes on George
on you income tax? If so, my tax lady says she needs to know what was
paid in on Social Security on Kathy? Do you know this or does your
husband do them? It is all confusing for me. I asked my sister and she
said, the people she sits for have a food allowance that is deducted first
since she furnishes all the food? Did you do this on Kathy? I didn't
want to ask her all this stuff because I don't understand enough about
this child care. My tax lady says there is a standard dedution and if you
have more than one child in day care it usually goes way over the standard
decution. Anyway, please don't say anything to the kids. I'm trying to
get this done without bothering them. My tax lady owes me a couple of
favors and is willing to do this for me.
I'm glad George had a good day. He is a charming fellow, isn't
he? I don't think he'll have any trouble unless he gets sick a lot. He's
at a good age to make changes. sincerely, lani

We are not claiming George's daycare on our taxes.
Mark's daycare takes up all the our deduction.

George's first day at OSU went well, but he was a littl clingy
during the hour I stayed at drop-off. Today he went about his
business without any fuss at all.

Gary

Hi Gary, Sorry about the misunderstanding. I am trying to help the kids
with their taxes because I have a tax lady (after many frustrating years
of Fred doing it, he finally gave in) She couldn't give me advice until I
knew how you were claiming. Anyway, thank you for responding. I am
trying to do so many things and I know that you folks were also stressed
with all the sudden changes. I still think it was best for George since
Kathy is pregnant. I told Caroline there might be times when Kathy
couldn't care for George properly and I couldn't help Caroline out.
George is a great little fellow and I enjoyed him. He was so funny. He
had his own special way of getting attention. I think he will do okay.
The babies that have the most trouble adjusting are the ones who only go
to sitters once or twice a week.
Thank you for responding. I hope Caroline will keep in touch. I
think I still have a couple of pictures of George in my camera. sincerely
lani
