Hi,
The safety town program run by
the Arlington Police dept has starte
enrollment. There is a July 20-31
slot (9-12 or 1-4) at Greensview
school. I asked Emily's mom if
emily wanted to go. She said yes
if we can get them into one of
those slots. If it's morning, I could
drop them off in the morning (Emily
would come to our house) and one of
us could pick them up at lunchtime (her
or me). If it's afternoon, she and I
will split carpool. Does this sound
ok to you? let me know...

Caroline,

I am forwarding your message and this answer to Becky Klosterman, a
school psychologist in the district for very specific procedures. I
know that you make the referral to Intervention Services and my guess is
that you make it in writing. Appointments are usually scheduled early
summer. Students are evaluated and a determination is made about
placement. There will definitely be a formal cognitive measure and an
achievement measure. There would certainly be an informal measure of
social/emotional status though I don't know what they are presently
using. Becky's email address is: bklosterman@uaschools.org in case
you don't hear from her in the near future.

Caroline Palmer wrote:

I wrote and asked, do we have to sign up for kindergarten
now in case the recommendation after testing is to send him.
I'll let you know what I hear.

Caroline,

Since you have to present a birth certificate when you enroll a
student in school, I don't think that any of the elementary schools will
let you sign up for kindergarten because of birth date. If testing is
undertaken and enrollment in kindergarten is recommended, signing up
late should not be a problem.

Missy
